RE: How important is the vented battery case?

Oh great! Cops can pull me over for speeding, impeding traffic, improper lane usage, seat belt useage, cell phone useage, open containers, suspicion of drugs, weapons, and now improperly vented battery boxes!?
Me 2 -->> Yep, what Washboy said !

RE: Anyone have any trouble with a 2008 Chevy 3500 Dually

The aluminum heads are not prone to melting.
The Dodges are prone to the service department with clogged DPF's, Turbo's and EGR's.

Visit this place and go to the section for VIN check requests and within a day you'll have the full report on the truck on your computer screen.
Great screenshot ... really illustrates the point!

RE: So why hasn't Diesel come down

I have also heard that the investment in equipment that was necessary to get down to the ULSD requirement was too expensive for a lot of smaller companies and they just got out of that market, so less supply.

RE: SHORTEST 2 SLIDE FIFTH WHEEL ??

My Northwood (Arctic Fox) 27-5L has two slides (with the bedroom slide being the wardrobe) with an actual length of 27 feet. They also have models where the bed slides that are 30 feet actual length. Arctic Fox
Yes, Nash & Arctic fox make nice units under 30'
Nash is a Northwood unit.

RE: Tailgate Stolen Off Pickup Truck

Mr Brew-Ski,
When you replace that tailgate, secure it a little tighter with a hose clamp installed over the right pivot/hinge. The combination of the tailgate lock and the hose clamp will at least slow them down...should they ever return for a second helping.
I even filled the screwdriver slot with expoxy...requiring a nut driver or socket wrench to remove it. I figured that most thieves would have some simple tools...but probably not a socket set???
Another great idea from Washboy!
Thks,

RE: Maybe I was too harsh

Nope, I don't think you were too harsh at all. Some people seem to think that rules don't apply to them. (personal peeve: I hate salesmen of all types especially car salesmen ... I've never found an honest one among the bunch)!
Why are you selling your 5'er?

RE: Another can I tow question

F250camper
wow, Ford sure raised the bar on their F250 with a 10000 GVWR and if the 7000 RAWR number is correct. Most HD 2500 trucks raer when empty weigh (est) 2800-3000 lbs which leaves (est) 4000+ lb payload.
JIM
Jim, I'd say you're right about Ford raising the bar. A couple of years ago over at Home Depot, I was looking at a new 2006 F350 SRW that the dealer had parked next to the bldg. It had the options sticker in the window but was all locked up with no salesman around (so I couldn't see the door sticker to get FAWR, RAWR ratings). I couldn't hardly believe the GVWR number on the window sticker.
For that 2006 F-350 SRW, they listed the GVWR as 11,500. I know it had an 18" tire (LT275/70R18E), also option of 20" tires, but I didn't notice the load rating on the LT275/70R18E tires at the time.
I believe GM & Dodge 3500s w/SRW have a 9,900 GVWR max, so how does Ford get by with 11,500 (1600# increase)? Is it the tires, Tow Boss Command or just what?
From the Ford website, I pulled the window sticker of a sample truck for illustration purposes: Optional Equipment 2006 MODEL YEAR {misc deleted} 6.0L V-8 DIESEL, TORQSHIFT(TM) 5-SPD AUTO TRANS, LT275/70R18E OWL ALL-TERRAIN, 3.73 RATIO LIMITED SLIP AXLE, 11500# GVWR PACKAGE, CAMPER PACKAGE, REAR STABILIZER BAR, FX4 PACKAGE, {misc deleted} TOW COMMAND SYSTEM {misc deleted}
It baffles me how Ford can rate the GVWR of their SRWs so high unless it's the 18" tires. Goodyear site indicates: Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor in size LT275/70R18E has Max Load of 3,640 @ 80 ... this doesn't seem all that high compared to my LT265/75R16E Michelin Max Load rated at 3415 @ 80 psi.
Sorry for off topic but your post set me to wondering how Ford gets such a high GVWR.

RE: Over your "pin weight"

The 6064 RAR (rear axle rating from GM) is the tires (3032x2 on the 245's offred on the 2500hd trucks in 03).
Fact 03 2500HD vs 3500HD (Single read wheel not dualy) is leaf springs, tires, door stickers and price.
Replace your tires with 265 E rated (3400lbs each), swap leafs or add air bags and your good for 200#.
Your numbers are close, but the LT245/75R16-E Firestone tires that came on my '03 2500HD were rated at 3042lbs. @ 80 psi (my sticker shows: GAWR rear 6084). The LT265/75R16-E Michelin tires that I put on are rated at 3415lbs. @ 80 psi. Both ratings are for single rear (vs dual).
Another difference that I noticed in 2003 when comparing SRW 2500HD vs SRW 3500 was that the all 4 of the SRW 3500s that I saw with the LT265s had steel wheels vs the aluminum wheels on my 2500HD.
